Duties

In this position, you will support and manage telehealth clinical encounters from the patient and provider location as the site telepresenter. Your primary day-to-day duties will be comprised of a combination of telepresenter-, imager- and screener-related duties. The bulk of your duties will involve managing the patient site clinical, business, technical aspects of telehealth applications. The telehealth aspect involves performing a full spectrum of telehealth encounters including tele-mental health, tele-audiology, and home telehealth procedures.

The more hands-on, technical aspects of the job include performing a variety of telehealth imaging actions involving tele-retinal screening, tele-dermatology, tele-wound care and other related programs and procedures. This will allow you to work with new and emerging technologies as they become available.

As a health care representative of VA, and an employee supporting its missions, you will be expected to consistently treat patients – our nation's Veterans – in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner. Patients depend on you for the quality care and service that they so greatly deserve.

Other Duties include:

  • Documenting information in the patient's electronic medical record.

  • Installing, maintaining, performing Telehealth inventory and assisting providers as indicated on all Veteran specific Telehealth technologies, including Telehealth peripherals.

  • Opening the telehealth patient room and readying equipment for examination and access, etc.

  • Developing programs and processes to ensure telehealth modalities are timely, efficient and appropriate to the needs of the patient.

  • Reviewing relevant data for the telehealth program and assisting with studies and training programs to improve services.

  • Performing patient screenings and evaluating patient needs regarding the appropriateness of telehealth.

  • Performing various clinical duties such as performing EKG's and applying Holter monitors as well as assisting with data collection for studies as requested and cleaning and trouble-shooting telehealth equipment.

Work Schedule: Part-time (approximately 4 days per week), Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

In addition to the English Language Proficiency, to qualify for this position at the GS-5, you must also meet the following requirements:

GS-5. Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level which must be close to the work of this job and has required the application of knowledge, methods, and techniques to successfully perform the duties of Health Technician – Telehealth Clinical Technician. Specialized experience includes but is not limited performing the following under more than normal supervision: performing vitals on patients, performing patient screening to determine cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological development; exercising judgment to perceive patient's needs and evaluating needs; providing education, orientation, and training to patients, caregivers, and staff; providing direct customer service to include equipment education; programming and setting up and adjusting accessory medical equipment such as blood pressure monitors, scales, pulse oximeters, glucose monitor cables and glucose meters, and equipment with peripheral accessories; observing patients and reporting changes, and performing clerical duties. Any specialized work related to telehealth or any telehealth modalities will be beneficial to consideration of this position. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

OR

Education. Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.

OR

Combination of experience equivalent to the GS-4 level and post-high school education that is qualifying for this position. Such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. Example: 8 months of GS-4 level experience is equal to 67% of specialized experience. This applicant would need 20 semester hours in excess of the first 60 semester hours to meet 100% of specialized experience under the combination rule.
