Salvation Army Northern Division Volunteer and Public Relations Manager in Fargo, North Dakota
Position Summary Responsible for managing the recruitment, training, and cultivation of volunteers and donors, through public relations activities providing the public information about programs and opportunities, and through the coordination and implementation of special and seasonal fund-raising events. Serve as a resource to the Fargo Corps with volunteer engagement and development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.Chair and direct all associated committees and meetings.Public Relations and Volunteer RecruitmentCommunicate all public materials with the Divisional/Twin Cities Media Relations Director and Divisional PR director. Ensure compliance with the TSA brand standards. Plan, prepare and make presentations to media, groups and at appropriate events to promote The Salvation Army programs and volunteer opportunities Respond to requests for information from the media. Create and deliver press releases, media alerts, media relations content, and social media content. Coordinate press interviews.Prepare and distribute literature and information to promote and educate the public about Salvation Army programs and volunteer opportunities Distribute, collect, and submit Volunteer applications for new, on-going, and one-time volunteers as required by Salvation Army policy.Assure compliance with The Salvation Army's volunteer back-ground check policyVolunteer Coordinating, Cultivation, RetentionPlan, prepare and provide general orientation information and training for new volunteers Coordinate to assure volunteers receive proper orientation and training for specific volunteer areas Work with volunteers to assure proper placement according to interest, skills, and abilities.Prepare and distribute volunteer satisfaction surveys to determine areas of strength and weakness in volunteer programCoordinate sending of thank-you letters to volunteers after events to inform them of impact they had on communityTrack and recognize volunteers with long service time or who give over and above serviceReceive and coordinate requests from program leaders for volunteer needs (both on-going and events)Maintain database of volunteers with volunteer interest, skills, availability, and other pertinent informationSend/contact volunteers to inform them of specific needs and schedule to fill needsCommunity RelationsHelp plan and implement special events, such as volunteer recognition, public education events, and other events as directed.Compose and send news releases concerning events/public interest items to the news mediaPlan short-term and long-range planning for community relations campaignsPlan and coordinate with program and administrative staff on promotion of events Special and Christmas Fund-raisingPlan and coordinate Special Fund-Raising events, including the annual Cuts for Kids, Moorhead Firefighters Golf Tournament, Mascot Challenge and others as directedPlan and coordinate Christmas Kettles, including recruitment/scheduling of volunteers, and coordinating daily schedules for kettle coordinatorsOther related duties as directed by the Corps Officer or Supervisor.
